Paris Hilton Joins K-pop Craze

MANILA, Philippines - Socialite and reality TV star Paris Hilton is helping to boost K-pop's popularity in a global scale by agreeing to appear in a music video.

Hilton will be participating in the music video for the title track of the upcoming album of veteran Korean singer Kim Jang Hoon.

"Kim was considering other Hollywood stars such as Jessica Alba and Scarlett Johansson along with Hilton, but decided to cast Hilton when the polls in Korea showed that Hilton was the most widely recognized Hollywood celebrity among Koreans," the Korea Herald quoted Kim Jang Hoon's agency as saying.

Kim Jang Hoon and Hilton will be filming the music video from Aug. 23 to 25 in Malibu and Los Angeles.

It will be released in 2-D and 3-D versions.

A total of 1.5 billion won (about P55.83 million) will be spent for the music video.

"In other words, what might help Kim Jang Hoon most is not necessarily how famous Hilton is in Korea, but how famous she is across the rest of the world. And, as we learned from Mad Men, Hilton is the same in every language. To the moon, Paris!" wrote Spin.com about Hilton's participation in the music video.

Last month, Kim Jang Hoon received the US President Barack Obama's "The President's Volunteer Service Award" presented by the Corporation for National & Community Service.

The singer was cited for his contribution to charities.

Kim Jang Hoon is also an activist, most notably for his campaign for Liancourt Rocks, otherwise known as Dokdo in Korea.

He is set to hold a solo concert in New York in November.

Hilton, on the other hand, started as a model and crossed over to showbiz. She gained fame when she and Nicole Richie starred in the reality TV show "The Simple Life" in 2003. She also starred in movies and released albums and singles.
