Three Polish counter-terrorism officers are due to lose their jobs after failing to receive authorization to serve as bodyguards for Paris Hilton during her visit to Poland earlier this month.

Ms Hilton was in Poland for the grand opening of the Silesia City Center mall. Nine bodyguards were hired to protect her, among them the three officers.

The three counter-terrorism officers did not ask their superiors for permission to take the job, Gazeta Wyborcza reported. Their faces are also clearly visible in several of the photographs taken during Ms Hilton's visit, putting them at risk of being recognized by criminals. The photographs have been published in media worldwide.

It has also been reported that although they were dressed as civilians, Sebastian P., Grzegorz P. and Adam M. whose last names cannot be revealed under Polish law were also carrying weapons that belonged to the unit.

If they don't resign, they will be fired, Andrzej Gska, the spokesperson for the police headquarters in Katowice, told reporters.

The circumstances under which they were offered the job are unclear.

The officers have been told they have until the end of this week to resign.
