Will Paris Hiltons Upcoming Album Help Revive Her Career?

At age 31, Paris Hilton is definitely not old; but she is aware that she's getting older and might not be feeling as hot and feisty as she used to. On the other hand, her former BFF Kim Kardashian seems to have skyrocketed in popularity. Watching Kim and her family hog the spotlight can't be easy when she was so accustomed to being the Hollywood "It" girl. So what's a girl to do? Release a new album of course.

And that is exactly what she intends to do in 2012. People will probably always think that anything she does is a publicity stunt. We've heard that she's desperate to stay in the spotlight. But if Paris is serious about reinventing herself as a genuine artist (fingers crossed), she just might be onto something.

What about the music?

People have been questioning for years why Paris Hilton is famous, as she is not an entertainer per se. But many of us would probably like to forget that she's already made a foray into music. Her first album Paris, which was released in 2006 (mostly produced by Scott Storch), barely sold 200,000 copies in total. The album was largely panned by critics and some fans mocked her attempt to become a pop star.

But is it possible that we overlooked a few bright spots on her debut album? Although her voice appears to be heavily layered throughout, the combination of the melody and the arrangements on a few tracks sounds nice. Overall, the entire production felt breezy and effortless, the way most pop music is intended to feel.

Can we take her seriously?

There are several reasons why we didn't take her first album seriously. One of those reasons is probably named "Stars are Blind." Nonetheless, her apparent need to be in! front o f the cameras and her flighty demeanor (deliberate or not) amongst other things overshadowed what might have been a genuine attempt to make good music. Like most artists releasing a sophomore project album, Paris claims that she's going in a different direction this time. She's got a power team of DJs and producers to help crystallize her sound. But what exactly is her sound? What kind of music should we expect from her in order to take her seriously? Or is this album merely another attempt to slide back into the spotlight? It is highly likely that Paris Hilton really does have talent. But how she chooses to showcase it will speak volumes.
